The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil,
but because of those who look on and do nothing.

The Hugs and Kisses

Years ago, back before my husband was anything more than my attractive nieghbor, he wasn't exactly talented at picking up women. His offer to take me to see new born puppies at a friends home was rather unoriginal, and would lead to many jokes later on. I, of course, accepted the offer. The friend wasn't home when we got there- so we watched the puppies for a little while and left.

It wouldn't be long before I "knew" all of his friends, despite the fact that I'd never met any of them, as they were almost always brought up in conversations between him and I. I quickly understood that I was entering into a tight knit circle of people who cared about each other like family. Soon, I'd find out just how loving these people were.

On one of our first dates, we went downtown to a music festival. All of his friends would end up being there, and I nervous to say the least. One of the first glimpses I caught of this group of late thirty somethings was a small man, with a huge smile hugging and kissing "the wives". My nervousness increased as I realised they were the "touchy feely" sort of people. And I turned and quietly asked if there was anyway I would be able to avoid this display... for the rest of my life. And that kissing man, was Steve- the friend I'd missed meeting when seeing the puppies.

As it turned out, Steve was the official kissing and hugging man. Friendly, and outgoing, always offering advice whether it was wanted or not, and always... always loving.

I managed to avoid the open displays of affection, and dodge away untouched for a while. And they would laugh about it. It must have been so odd to them, this barely 20 something girl, obsessed with the challenge of going untouched by them.

I can recall one conversation, long after his friends had become "our friends" that I would allow each of them one hug, and one sole kiss on the cheek. They could pick the day, either when we got married, or when we had a baby. In my book, these were the only occasions for such behavior. Steve laughed at me, and said one day the hugs would just become as natural as telling a good friend goodbye when they left. Steve hugged and kissed me on both occasions. And I never thought twice about it.

Dinners, big parties, a wedding, and a few babies, lots of holidays- they all seemed to come and go so very quickly. This group of people, who had completely intimidated me- who had grown from little kids into adults with my husband... have grown to be a lot like family to me. I don't mind the hugs and kisses so much, I haven't heard the jokes about where I was in '78 (the year I was born and the year most of them became adults) very often anymore, and I know that when it takes my husband three hours to get gas in his truck- he's most likely just visiting one of them "because it was on the way home".

Steve had been sick for the last few years, and the last time he'd been over, I had had to fill out some checks for him as he didn't have the energy to do it himself. After he left, I'd realised that it had been one of the very few times since I'd gotten married that he hadn't hugged me. And I missed that.

Last night, a small man with a huge smile, and even larger heart passed away. And, I must say, that all those hugs really did seem more natural than saying goodbye to a good friend.

I'm going to be taking a break on writing for a short time, taking care of things that need a little more of my attention right now.

Well, They Checked the Box

The "do not disclose information about the student" box that is.

I suppose that is a good enough reason to withhold information concerning a dangerous sexual offender. Especially when the said offender is attending a school, filled with potential victims. And, it takes away all responsibility for those who oversee this "not disclosing information" bit when the sex offender attacks a teacher and threatens to rape her while holding broken scissors to her neck.

AISD police say 18-year-old Nathan Mendoza has been charged with attempted aggravated sexual assault. There's also a twist. He was a registered sex offender.

AISD police say towards the end of school on Tuesday, Mendoza stayed in a classroom after the last school bell rang. They say he and the teacher were alone when he threatened her with a broken pair of scissors.

"Held that to her throat. Told her he was taking her hostage. Demanded sex from her," Silas Griggs with AISD police said.

Even worse, this wanna be rapist, and prior convicted sex offender is on the run.

He was living in a nearby halfway house run by the Texas Youth Commission, which says given the circumstances, he should be considered dangerous while he's on the run.

While I understand the idea that one has the right to an education- I believe that it's really less of a right- and more of a privilege. And, being such- there are certain things that should make losing that privilege possible. Such as being a danger to the well being of other students or facility. Let's face it, if we can't trust to to not attempt to sexually assault someone while attending school- then most likely you really don't belong there to begin with.
In truth, 18-year-old Nathan Mendoza shouldn't be out of jail, let alone anywhere near a school.
Mendoza lived in a halfway house and was going through the Texas juvenile justice system for indecency with a 4-year-old girl in 2002 in the San Antonio area.

2002, it's 2006 now. He's 18- making him around 14 or so when he committed his first (known) offense. And now, he's attempted to rape a teacher, and is on the run.

I wonder if next time he'll just make the leap and kill his victim, seeing how murder isn't all that far behind assault and threats to ones life.

Gee, I'm sure glad that his guardians had the option of "checking that box" aren't you? After all, his right to privacy is so much more important that other peoples right to be in a safe environment.

Star In a Hollwood Film... With a Sex Offender.

From Wispers to Roars has an interesting offer to those living in Aiken Georgia- you can go down to a real Hollywood movie set, and met a real Hollywood sex offender. You might even get picked to be an extra in the movie.

Possible titles include:

The Sex Offenders Day Off- "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
Beetle Perv- "Beetle Juice" (sorry but the other option, was just too wrong to post)
(child) Porn Little - "Stuart Little"
Pedo Dolittle 2 - "Doctor Dolittle 2"
??- "Deadwood" (okay I can't go there at all, cause well, my options are so limited)

Yes, that's right. actor Jeffrey Jones is once again filming, although this time it seems to be a legit movie unlike his attempt to film child porn images a few years back.

Michael Patrick McPhail

Michael Patrick McPhail's wife most likely walked onto her back porch expecting something completely different than what she ended up seeing, and what she did next was not only fast thinking, but crucial to punishing her husband.

Source-- McPhail's wife told investigators that she found her husband on their back porch Wednesday night having intercourse with their 4-year-old female pit bull terrier, the Pierce County sheriff's office report said. The dog was squealing and crying, according to charging papers. The woman took photos with her cell phone and called the sheriff's office.

While McPhail's fate will now be served to him through a Court of Law, the family's two dogs- both the one abused and another one- will have their fate decided by Pierce
County Animal Control, and it's not looking so good for either of them.
Pierce County Animal Control officials say a 4-year-old pit bull at the center of an alleged case of felony bestiality will likely be euthanized, prompting an outcry from animal-welfare groups.

The pit bull, named Sara, has been kept in isolation at the Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce County since shortly after a woman told police she photographed her husband having sex with the animal in the couple's Spanaway yard.

Because one of the conditions of McPhail's release forbids him from having contact with animals, Sara and the family's other pit bull might never return home, said Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer.

If the family doesn't reclaim the animals, Sara will be euthanized because of her history of biting, Sayre said.

Scooter, the family's 3-year-old male pit bull, is socializing well and thus far doesn't appear to be a threat if adopted, he said. The Seattle Times

While we all understand that at times dogs have been so completely mistreated by their owners that they are unable to function in a safe environment, and that they at times become vicious, I would think that especially in a case such as this- the option of further punishing the dog for this monsters actions would be cruel and unusual.
Pasado, a organization dedicated to the safe keeping of all animals has stepped in on behalf of the dogs and are attempting to gain custody of them.
According to their website, they are offering to be a safe haven for both of the animals:
Pasado's is offering Animal Control (under whose purview this case falls under) to release both dogs to Pasado's Safe Haven provided that we pay for any bond necessary to insure the public's safety. Additionally, the local humane society who may adopt out the male, does not perform home checks, which Pasado's does. We could assure that this dog will be placed in a loving home (We also do requisite unannounced checks following adoption.)

Furthermore, releasing the female dog to Pasado's Safe Haven would provide the animal the opportunity for professional behavioral assessment and training. We would assume all costs for this. We are now in communication with Cesar Milan, National Geographic Channel's "The Dog Whisperer" who is a specialist in pitbull behavior and aggression. Cesar helped Pasado's with dogs we rescued in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Neither he nor Pasado's believes that truly vicious dogs should be adopted. But we also believe that every dog should be given a fair chance. This female pup shouldn't be locked in a kennel without daily loving and training. Please stay tuned to this website for updates.

They have stepped up, and offered to do this at no cost to the general public, and for the benefit of a animal that has already been heinously abused. They've also asked for the help for the public in letting authorities know that this dog should not be further punished. If you have a moment, please visit their site, and see if you could perhaps be willing to give a moment of your time to bring awareness to others on this.

And if you think that animal cruely is something to be shrugged off, then you may want to look at this page. H/t Lindsey. And not the one I'm always complaining about, a different better one.

Kenneth Hinson, In Court

If you recall this story, and this one- then you know who Kenneth Hinson is.

For those of you who don't, he's the South Carolina man charged with kidnapping and raping two teenage girls in an underground room behind his home.

What made this story even worse is that had a judge done his job, this all could have been prevented.

From Crime Scene Blog- In 1991, Kenneth Glenn Hinson sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl. He was tried and convicted and was in jail until 2000, when he was released. At the time of his release, it was recommended that Hinson be placed in the South Carolina Sexually Violent Predator program. This request was denied by Judge Edward Cottingham.

It appears that Hinson is due in court on the new charges, and guess who the judge is that shall be presiding over the case?

The same judge.

A South Carolina man charged with kidnapping and raping two teenage girls in an underground room behind his home is to appear today before a judge who decided six years ago against sending the convicted sex offender to a secure rehabilitation program.

Circuit Judge Edward Cottingham’s decision allowed for the eventual release of Kenneth Glenn Hinson, 48, who was arrested after a four-day manhunt in March. The girls were sexually assaulted and left bound inside the room concealed under a shed, but managed to free themselves and get to safety, authorities said.

State Attorney General Henry McMaster’s office previously criticized Cottingham, but would not talk about the judge Wednesday because they are handling Hinson’s prosecution.

McMaster’s spokesman Trey Walker said in March that had Cottingham not dismissed the case, “there is a chance that this individual would still be in the ... program and a chance that those girls would not have been victimized.” Source

Should we cross our fingers and hope the judge does better this time around?

Pervs... Even Basil Gets Them

I know that the very subject of my blog will indeed attract unwanted visitors seeking illegal content, because their search words are often included in the stories that I write. I feel safe in saying that when they click over, they aren't finding exactly what they want. But, their being here does give me the chance to show what pervs are lurking out there.

Now, many people will assume that I am a minority when it comes to getting these search referals, and that the single reason is due to the subject of my blog. They'd be wrong.

You see, Basil, from Basils blog doesn't talk about sexual predators all that much. In fact, only a few times have I ever seen it mentioned- but don't get me wrong, his is a place worth reading. Always interesting, and always a much needed break from the whole "sex crimes" type reading I do to bring you the stories I have here.

Yet, it seems that Basil has recently gotten a down right interesting search referral of his own...

Well, yesterday, we had a visitor from New York City. And not just from New York City, but from the New York City government. That's

Trust me, you have to see this one for yourself. New York City Tax Dollars At Work

Adam Robosson

Adam Robosson was a Criminology major at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. According to his Myspace account, well I'll just let him tell you in his own words:

My name is Adam Robosson im a sophomore at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Criminology major woooooooooo, maybe ill be in the FBI or something. Im from a really small town of Hyndman Pennsylvania which is very close to nowhere. Im just about the most outgoing guy your going to meet, people say im a nice guy which i like to think i am.

He had a rather plain Yahoo Messenger Profile, a FaceBook account
None of this would have made Robosson seem any different from other 19 year olds. What does set him apart is the child porn investigators found on his computer.
Police said Adam Robosson, 19, was distributing a movie on the Internet that showed a 2-year-old girl being raped by a man.
Click here to find out more!

Investigators said they found a total of six movie files, all of which showed children engaged in sexual acts.

Robosson was arraigned on charges of sexual abuse of children and having obscene sexual materials. He is free on bond.

Catch that last part "Free on Bond". How nice for him, maybe he'll have time to work on this goal of being in the FBI. Which btw, someone may want to tell him isn't likely to happen with those child porn charges lingering in his arrest records.

Who's Wrong?

A brief summery of the story:

Lori Lynn Letsinger attend the high school concert in which her son was performing. She's the wife of a former board member, although I'm not sure if that really adds anything to the story or not. I'm leaning towards the idea it does.

So, Letsinger wants to attend the concert, which is normal. The only problems is that Letsinger is a convicted sexual offender (pleaded guilty in 2004 to indecent solicitation of a child, prosecutors alleged that Letsinger had sex with a 16-year-old boy).

So she goes to the school board to request permission to attend. The school board agrees that she should be allowed to. They don't contact LE to see if this is appropriate. They don't ask for input from other parents or teachers... in fact they hold a "closed" meeting, denying members of the public the right to be present.

The single problem turns out to be the sole board member who refused to agree to her presense at the concert- Gloria Maloney. She alone felt that parents had the right to be warned... so she handed out fliers alerting them to the danger.

The board issued a censure, an official statement that carries no weight, saying Maloney's failure to respect "the confidentiality of privileged information" violated the board's code of ethics.

"You are talking about a minor child who was traumatized by your actions," board member Patti Lawrence told Maloney at a meeting Monday.

Maloney, whose motion to remove the censure from the board's agenda was defeated, defended her actions, saying that somebody needed to let the public know about the board's decision in closed session to grant a convicted sex offender the right to attend a school function.

"This didn't have anything to do with the child," said Maloney, who voted against the approval. "It had to do with the parent."

So, who do you believe is right in this matter? The board who okayed the presense of a sexual offender without the input of other parents, teachers, or anyone; or the single board member that felt it was her duty to keep the school district informed of what was happening?

More Musical Predators...

In this post, I explained the concept of the game "Musical Predators". To make a short story shorter- it's when a country decides to deport their offender outside the country rather than punish them. At last count, it was Canada and the US at a tie... I didn't see the surprise strategy of my home country coming.

A man in Greene County was facing life in prison, but now the former fugitive will spend no time behind bars for inappropriately touching a child.

BTW, that "touching" is described as rape in the headline. And let's not forget the attempted murder charge either.

On Tuesday, Mobarak was found guilty of one count of sexual battery after pleading no contest.

Greene County law enforcement officers went all the way to Germany last year to arrest Mobarak. They charged him with trying to kill his estranged wife and raping a young boy.

However, as the case progressed, those charges were dropped and a new one was added.
Greene County Prosecutor Jeff Hunter said, “The defendant, Mr. Mobarak, did engage in sexual conduct with another person. That other person at the time was 9 years old.”

Hunter said, “In this case, there was a legal matter where the state was in danger of losing the case and not being able to prosecute at all. So with those parameters in mind, the defense came to an agreement.”

So, now it seems that we allow predators to roam free... as long as they agree to do the roaming in another country.

How nice for them. And how completely devastating for their future victims.
Defense Attorney Dennis Lieberman said, “The condition of the terms of community control is that he goes to Jordan. If he comes back, he will be put on community control.”

Lieberman said his client is a U.S. citizen, but it appears that Mobarak has no plans to stay in the U.S.

Just a reminder for Trick or Treat...

For Allen County Ohio- you can find a list of all sex offenders here.

I know that some of us have children that are "old enough to go alone", but I caution you all that these days going alone or even in a group of children with no supervision invites trouble.

Do you know the people at every door your child might knock upon? Do you know which homes contain sex offenders whose eyes your child may catch?

As a parent, it is our responsibility to ensure that our children are well protected- even if they think that having an adult tag along isn't the coolest idea. Just think of the alternatives, and I'm sure you would agree that a little embarrassment on their part is well worth the knowledge that your children are safe.

A few precautions, even for those of you who will be walking side by side with your children:

Take a few extra moments to plan a route that you will be using for trick or treat. Using that route, cross check your local sex offender database to see if there are any dangers along the way. Avoid any houses, businesses or schools that may have sex offenders. (yes schools- because some sex offenders do go to schools).

If you are Trick or Treating at night, take along a flashlight, or even better provide your children with glow sticks that they can wear.

Carry a cell phone. Some times the dangers aren't just to our children.

Last year there was a large problem with Haunted Houses being ran by sex offenders- so please use caution then too.

Some not so sex offender related tips for keeping kids safe include:

* Never let children under age 12 go trick-or-treating or cross the street without the supervision of an adult on Halloween night.
* Teach them never to dart out into a street or cross between parked cars.
* Decorate costumes, bags and sacks with retroreflective tape and stickers.
* Use costumes that are light or bright enough to make children more visible at night.
* Teach children to walk, not run, while trick-or-treating.
* Remind children to stop at all street corners before crossing. Tell them to cross streets only at intersections and crosswalks.
* Teach them to look left, right and left again before crossing the street and to continue looking both ways as they cross.

In addition to pedestrian safety, parents should take precautions against the hazards of fire and fall safety issues. Below are some tips the Campaign recommends:

* Apply face paint or cosmetics directly to the face. It is safer than a loose-fitting mask that can obstruct a child's vision. If a mask is worn, be certain it fits securely. Cut the eyeholes large enough for full vision.
* Give trick-or-treaters flashlights.
* Make costumes short enough to avoid tripping.
* Secure hats so they will not slip over children's eyes.
* Dress children in shoes that fit. Adult shoes can cause kids to trip and fall.
* Allow children to carry only flexible knives, swords or other props. Anything they carry could injure them if they fall.
* Teach children not to cut across yards. Lawn ornaments and clotheslines are "hidden hazards" in the dark. Tell your children to stay on the sidewalk at all times.

* Look for "flame resistant" labels on costumes, masks, beards and wigs.
* Avoid costumes made of flimsy material and outfits with big, baggy sleeves or billowing skirts. These are more likely to come in contact with an exposed flame, such as a candle, than tighter fitting costumes.
* Keep candles, pumpkins with candles, matches and lighters out of childrens reach.

Be safe.

If we can send em to Canada...

Then I suppose we shouldn't complain when Cambodia sends them to us.

Of course, I'm talking about the new and exciting game of "Musical Predators". The rules to this new game are simple- export your sexual predators to a different country as quickly as possible. Then the Country left with the most Sexual Predators in the end loses.

In this most recent round of Musical Predators, it really looked as if the US was going to win... as Harding was reporting on the sex offender sentenced to remain out of here, and in Canada.

But, then in a last moment attempt to clean the filth from their country- Cambodia jumped in and declared itself winner.

A convicted sex offender who fled Oregon to south Asia and was expelled from Cambodia this month will be headed back to Jackson County to face charges of failure to register, sodomy and sex abuse.

Terry D. Smith, 54, and a girlfriend were arrested in September after police accused him of having sex with two girls, ages 13 and 14, in the bedroom of a bar, Tramp's Place, he owned in the Cambodian coastal town of Sihanoukville, and filming the acts.

He was arrested by Cambodian police Aug. 5 but was freed Aug. 31 and disappeared. He was arrested again in September outside the American Embassy when he tried to replace a passport police had confiscated earlier.

As if we really need anymore deviant monsters in the US.

They're trying to clean up Williamson County.

According to him, they knew just what they were doing, and given the sentence he received... they were doing a damn good job of it. Which only made 44 year old Jimmy Jay Jensen more angry.

Jensen was reacting to his sentence- where he was ordered to serve five life sentences and two 20-year sentences for sexually abusing a child- when he called his mother on the phone from the courthouse and threatened the lives of both the judge, and the prosecutor.

After the sentencing, Jensen was taken back to the jail where he got on the phone, called his mother, and said...

Jenson's voice said on the audiotape: "If I'd a had a gun, I'd a shot her and the f-----g judge, you know, John Bradley too. I'd kill all three of them son of a b-----s. This f-----g county is so damn f----d-up."
Jenson's mom said: "I know, they don't know what they're doing."
Jenson said: "Oh, they know what they're doing. They're trying to clean up Williamson County."

He was talking about killing prosecutor Jane Starnes, judge Ken Anderson and Bradley, the district attorney.

Big words coming from a man that rapes a child. And will be over a hundred years old when he next sees this side of the prison fence... well either that or he'll be dead. But, I don't think dead people see much, so who cares.

More Pervs, Or Posts of Shame

If you recall this post... you'll understand the following images. If you don't- well just know that these people, who reside within the US have decided to come in off of Lindsay Ashford's pedoland site.

I figured that it'd be nice to let everyone know who they are, or at least who their ISP is, and what their IP is.

This first one attempted to hide their info.
Too bad it failed to work. Even though I have two differnt cities, I still have one very interesting IP... and the ISP will know the most important thing- the who and where.

The others weren't so concerned about us knowing who they are, maybe their are just proud to be pedo's. Maybe they just don't care. Or maybe they were just jeaolous that they hadn't made it to one of my "Posts Of Shame" and were really hoping that this time they would. If that was their thinking- well friends today is their lucky day.

Personally, I always imagined Colorado to be a beautiful place, scenic and breath taking with good people. I suppose it just goes to show that there are sick pervs everywhere.

Stay tuned, as I'm sure that soon enough I'll be able to bring you yet another episode of "Post of Shame".

Charges Filed For Tattoo

Charges have been files against an inmate at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility for tattooing and threatening Anthony Stockelman.
Many of you will recall this story, so I wanted to update you on it.
See full story on charges here.

According to various news sites, the update to this case goes like this. Jared Harris is a distant cousin of Katie Collman. He is serving time for a burglary sentence from Bartholomew County- which netted him around 20 years.

Sullivan County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Bob Hunley was quoted as saying that Harris told Stockelman that he had a weapon and he would do bodily harm with that weapon or Stockelman could lay there and take the tatooing. As evident by the photo- Stockelman decided to get the tattoo.

Harris also faces rules violations for allegedly intimidating or threatening inmate Anthony Stockelman, tattooing him and being in an unauthorized area -- Stockelman's cell, Larsen said. For the violations, Harris will be on disciplinary segregation until September 2007.

More to come, as I will continue to follow this story.

Perv in Italy, or Why It's Fun to Have Lots of Stat Counters

Just so you know, blocked referrers are rather misleading. You think that you are covering your tracks and preventing identifing information being passed on as surf through your perv websites. But that's not always the case.

Some website stats programs will catch you, some won't. And while the ones that do may not show all of your identifing information, a resourceful person wanting to be able to track perv visitors will use a system that relies on more than one stats program.

Take for instance this perv from Italy-

They thought that they were being smart using a blocked referrer. Then I couldn't see how they came in. And wouldn't know that they were here from Head Pedo's place (see story here).

However, I am one of those resourceful types. And I've found that for the most part- if Statcounter doesn't get you, then Sitemeter will. And, if Sitemeter fails... well I have two others that do a pretty damn good job.

Combining information from even two of the site stats programs gives me just enough information to know that our Italian visitor is "un pervertito".

I know, this is just getting too fun.

To the Perv in Utah

You know who you are...

And now so do the rest of us.

He's Just 14

Just 14. Not old enough to drive, not even old enough to be out alone past curfew. And yet, tonight the 14 year old, Jacob Ferguson, sits in the custody of the State.

Ferguson, was taken by his father to the the Logan County Sheriff's Office (Ohio) to help in an investigation. He ended up being charged. For rape. Forty counts of rape to be exact.

And the news gets worse...

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday and charged with 40 delinquency counts of rape, according to a published report.

Police told The Bellefontaine Examiner that the charges against Jacob Ferguson stem from incidents during the past two years with a male and female victim, both under the ages of 10.

According to police, an Indian Lake-area boy under 10 years old was also charged with a delinquency charge of rape and was released to the custody of his parents, the newspaper reported.

I'm speechless.

"This Content Is Illegal"

Or something simular was displayed on a website offering child porn.... at least 125 failed to stop at seeing that.

Let's face it, there isn't an adult in the US that actually needs to be told that child pornography- whether we are talking about the production of, the distribution of, or the possession of- is illegal. Even if they do it on the internet. Even if they use fake emails, or anonymous web browsers.

And yet- despite the warning from the site, and despite the common knowledge that child porn is illegal, the Feds were able to arrest 125 in a recent investigation.

In a way, this is good news, and something that we all should be cheering. The law has been able to track down and stop 125 people- including a Bible camp counselor from Vancouver, Wash.; a Boy Scout leader from Mission, Texas; a pharmaceutical researcher in New Jersey; a police officer and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer. The materials that they were producing, distributing, or possessing showed the sexual abuse, sexual torture of children as young as six months old.

“When I say `hard-core' pornography, I am talking about child pornography that includes images of children as young as six months involved in bondage and sodomy,” U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie said. “This type of depraved conduct is something a civilized society cannot tolerate.”
Among those arrested was an information technology manager from northern New Jersey. According to court documents, federal agents searched his home and found more than 500 images of child pornography on his computer, including one showing an adult male having anal sex with a male infant. And, I'd think that you would agree... when you look at it that way, 125 doesn't seem all that many at all.

But back to the "in a way this is good news" my point in saying that is very real. We should be applauding this crackdown. And yet, 125 is actually a very small number when you come to think about it. I get at least that many searches for indecent and illegal material a month- and clearly they aren't finding what they are looking for here. These 125 people were arrested because of their use of one website.... but how many other sites like this are out there? How many other predators are still hiding behind their keyboards, seeking out this disgusting material? Not to mention the ones that are out there actually raping and torturing these kids in order to produce these images and movies.

If You're Gonna Be In Texas....

You shouldn't be a pedo in cyberland.

Evidently, someone didn't like this post too much. I won't link him, but the head pedo freak linked me again, complaining that I referred to a article written by someone who isn't a medical professional. Oddly enough, I myself am not a medical professional, and yet- I can correctly tell you that sexual abuse of children when defined by the pedo freak as "love" is just as sick, just as harmful and just as wrong as any other sort of sexual abuse of a child. Just because they want to say it's "different" doesn't mean it is.

Anyway, Mr. Pedo Freak linked me, I'm not linking him- but you can still find the address of his post if you look in the correct line of the following image.

You'll also notice that the IP who came in off of his link, is from within the US. Texas to be more clear.

Anyone know Level 3 Communications in Texas? Anyone feel like giving them a heads up that someone on the IP address is more than likely a deviant perv?

I'm thinking that it's be fun and interesting to post all the referrers from that site. Don't you? At least the ones that come in and are under the jurisdiction of the laws of the United States of America. Perhaps it'll give us a nice list of IP's that should be monitored for illegal activities.

Suicide Note, And Dismembered Body

The last time their names appeared in the news, it was due to their undaunting desire to survive, and their courage to make it through, no matter how hard things got.

Addie Hall and Zackery Bowen survived the water, the heat, the filth, and the anguish of what we call Hurricane Katrina. They were some of the last hold outs in a city that seemed overwhelmed by devastation. No electricity. No fresh water. No relief in site. Yet they held on to what little they had, and stuck it out. When police said that it was no longer safe to remain in the city- they found a way to ensure that their area would be patrolled:

In the French Quarter, Addie Hall and Zackery Bowen found a unusual way to make sure that police officers regularly patrolled their house. Ms. Hall, 28, a bartender, flashed her breasts at the police vehicles that passed by, ensuring a regular flow of traffic.

So impressive was their desire to stay that the New York Times picked up their story, and provided a small glimpse into their lives through the story quoted from above.

Today, Bowen again made the news. This time, the story isn't as courageous, isn't as favorable.
From MSNBC- A note found on the body of a suicide jumper led police to a French Quarter apartment where they found a woman’s charred head in a pot, her arms and legs in the oven and her torso in the refrigerator, police said Wednesday.

Zackery Bowen, 28, leapt from the seventh floor of a luxury hotel in the Quarter on Tuesday night, police said. His note, found in his pocket, identified the woman as his girlfriend but did not mention her name.

The body was found in the second-floor apartment that Bowen and his girlfriend, Adriane Hall, had shared on the edge of the Quarter above a voodoo shop, according to the landlord. Authorities said they were trying to find Hall, but did not speculate on the identity of the dismembered woman.

Kentucky Amber Alert, and A Murder

Boni Frederick of Morganfield had been a social worker in Kentucky. She was just doing her job when she went to the home of a nine-month-old who was in custody , so that the mother could have visitation with the boy.

On Monday, Henderson police were called to the 1200 block of Clay Street to check on the social worker, who was supposed to be visiting taking the baby to visit his mother.

No one answered the door, so police executed a search warrant and found Frederick's body inside.

Police Chief Ed Brady says the social worker's "body has obvious head trauma to it. There may be other injuries, but nothing visible at this point."

Police have issued an Amber Alert for the baby, Saige Terrell, and say he may be with his mother, 33-year-old Renee Terrell and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Christopher Wayne Luttrell.

Terrell does not have custody rights to baby Saige. Police say Terrell has family in Evansville and Fort Wayne in Indiana, in Louisville and in New York.

Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, Pointless?

Yes, you read that title correctly, "Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 , pointless?" Really I should be phrasing that as a statement, but I decided to do it as a question, in order to allow you a chance to ponder it over and come to a conclusion yourself.

If you recall, I recently wrote about Kenneth Hopson, the father of two young girls who was convicted of having 130 images and movies, all child porn depicting sexual abuse of young girls. Some around the same age as his own daughters, some just toddlers. Gloucester Circuit Judge William H. Shaw III sentenced him to .... ONE year. Yep, just one. To make this story even more startling, Gloucester Circuit Judge William H. Shaw III is also handling the divorce in this case, which will most likely effect visitation with his children. I can only begin to fear the way that will turn out- as Shaw clearly doesn't see the danger Hopson poses to children- including his own.

The reason I bring this case up, is because believe it or not we have introduced and accepted into law the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, which in Federal cases requires a minimum sentence. But, what good does it do if the States do not back the law? If you have charges in a state case, then that Law means nothing. It doesn't help ensure that these dangerous people are locked away, it does nothing. NOTHING.

Before you start to think that this case is a lone case, and that situations like this rarely happen, you might want to take a closer look.

An Avon man who had been found with scores of images of child pornography on his computer and videos of children being violently raped has avoided prison time.
Edward J. Burke III, 47, was given a suspended sentence last week after going into a courtroom expecting to spend up to four years behind bars.
Burke, 47, of Avon, was convicted in a plea deal of two counts of first-degree possession of child pornography.
Prosecutor John F. Fahey told Judge Thomas P. Miano that Burke had 141 photo images and two videotapes of known child victims on a home computer. The victims ranged in age from toddlers to prepubescent children.
Fahey and Burke's defense lawyer, John D. Maxwell, had worked out a deal that called for Burke to receive up to four years in prison, five years' probation, and mandatory sex offender registration for 10 years.
But the agreement gave Maxwell the right to argue for a completely suspended prison sentence, which was granted by Superior Court Judge Thomas J. Miano.

Different case, different judge, even worse outcome.

Burke will spend NO time in jail. Again, the courts deemed him a low risk and deemed the protection of children from this scum bag "just not worth it". I'm amazed they even had the willingness to take it to trial, or even arrest him for that matter. What a complete waste of time, and how dare the rest of us sit here shocked that yet another sexual predator has been handed a lollipop and sent on his merry way.

For more interesting tid bits on this case, see Steve Huff's post on it... he's picked up a few interesting facts on Miano.

And I pose the question, is the Adam Walsh Child Protection Act pointless? Seeing as how individual States have decided to reward child porn criminals rather than punish them? Can we rely on these laws to protect us when they only apply to Federal cases?

Sorry about that...

I've switched over to the new beta Blogger, which is really nicer than the old Blogger. One of the best parts is that it now offers labels. Sort of like my previous "categories" links, except that you don't have to leave here to see all the post. I used a third party social bookmarking site in order to bring you categories. They still work, and I'm likely to keep using that feature. But, if you've noticed- I've also started using Bloggers "labels" feature.

Now, I have over 1100 posts. And I just started putting them in categories about 6 months ago. And the labels thing started a weeks ago. I hadn't really gotten around to going through all of them, because it's time consuming. And then yesterday, Blogger offered a new feature, where I could mass label my posts. I jumped at it without thinking.

This jumping without thinking has caused two problems. First, some posts are in the wrong categories. My plan didn't seem to be as well thought out as I had hoped. So, I'm sorry for that. Second, and more importantly- when I added the new categories, it kind of messed up my feed. I know, I had already messed my feed up and had promised not to do it again. In my defense- I didn't know that republishing everything would cause Feedburner to redo my feed with posts that are 9 months old.

The bright side of this is that some of that stuff is really good... and important enough that you might want to see it. The bad news is that I intended people to see old posts because they wanted to, not because I screwed up the feed delivery.

So, now... you have my absolute promise that I A)will no longer mess with the feed and B)will no longer republish 1100 posts just because I want to have Blogger Labels.

Sorry. Again.

(quick distraction in order to change the subject and make you forget that I screwed up will be inserted below, please fall for this as if we were face to face, and I quickly pointed at something and yelled "eww LOOK AT THAT!" and then ran away while you were looking)

All kidding aside, that is a link that everyone should read. I promise that it's worth your time. Home Sweet Home has a wonderful post up on domestic violence, and seeing as it is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, you should be reading her site daily.

Domestic Violence relationships tend to follow somewhat of a pattern, at least in the earlier stages. The relationship will go through cycles lasting maybe hours, days, months or even years.

Joseph Duncan

Joseph Duncan was to get his jury today, in the case of the murders of three people: Slade Groene, Brenda Matthews Groene, and Mark McKenzie from back in May of 2005. I say was, because the jury selection was oddly canceled. And then a hearing was held today.

The Cellar- a blog started by Mickey Rat soon after learning the identity of Duncan in the murders and kiddnappings, and then left in the care of Jules- has had ongoing coverage of these recent events.

Prosecutor Bill Douglas has accepted Joseph Duncan's plea offer. Melissa Luck at KXLY reports that the plea accepted is essentially the same offer which was previously rejected by Douglas on October 6th., ran by Steve Huff also has ongoing coverage you may want to keep an eye on.

While many of us longed to see the death penalty in this case- the crimes were more heinous than we could even begin to imagine- the deal saves the lone survivor Shasta Groene from having to testify, and will likely bring comfort to the families of Duncan's still unknown victims. And of course- the Federal charges against him are still to come.

For more indepth information, and links to news sources- see the Cellar.

A Quick Round Up

40-year-old Lance Weinbrenner, a middle school teacher with the Gadsden Independent School District has been charged with molesting a student.

SOURCE: Dona Ana sheriff's investigators said 40-year-old Lance Weinbrenner allegedly molested a 15-year-old Gadsden High School student. Investigators urge other alleged victims, if any, to come forward.

"We're stressing to the public that if they are aware of any other incidents to please contact the Dona Ana Sheriff's Department," said Robyn Gojkovich with the Dona Ana Sheriff's Department.

A big concern for law enforcement officials is that Weinbrenner is a math teacher at Chaparral Middle School. Sheriff's investigators said the alleged sexual incident did not happen at the school; they said only that it happened in Anthony, N.M.

Santa Claus has been arrested for being a complete and absolute perv-
A man who has portrayed Santa Claus was one of several men arrested in a two-day crackdown on sexual activity at a Logansport park this week, police said.

John Hopkins, 60, was arrested Wednesday at Spencer Park after he grabbed an undercover officer, according to Kokomo police, who helped Logansport police with the sting.

The white-bearded Hopkins told police that he has played Santa in the past. When an investigator found in Hopkins' truck a flier about an upcoming holiday event, Hopkins said he guessed he couldn't play Santa anymore because of the arrest, police said.

And a low life scum bag who had a prostitution ring involving a 13-year-old, decided to plead out. Cutting his sentence in half.
Paul Nisly of Webster pleaded guilty Friday to lascivious acts with a child in Washington County District Court. He is expected to receive a suspended five-year prison sentence and be required to register as a sex offender.

Feed Subscribers....

First, I am supposing that if you are seeing this via your subscription service- then everything is fine. If you are viewing this because you haven't seen my rss feed update in a few days, and you just thought you'd pop in to see if I was still here, then I am sorry.

You see, last night I was playing with my feeds. What I really wanted to do is combine them. Because at one point I set up a feed, but then I forgot how to log into manage it- so I just created a new one. Some of you might have that older one. Some of you have the newer one. I was hoping to turn the two into one. I might have messed something up. I hope I didn't... but I might have.

The feed I can manage, and thus prefer you to use is . But you don't have too. Especially if I messed it up. Sorry Sorry Sorry. I promise not to play with the settings anymore. And if any of you use the new one, and are having issues with it- leave me a comment please, and I'll see what I can do about getting someone else to fix it.

Lilo's Updates

I don't know where to begin, so forgive me for a moment if this seems out of place.

If you ever have taken the time to look over at the far right, you will find a link that is entitled "About Me". Some of you may have already read it, and that's great. I should most likely update it a little, probably explain a little more about my vision, and what I feel is a personal mission- but I just don't really have the time. Sorry. Under that, you will find my new "Legal Notice". Mainly because it was suggested that I get one. And, I'm all about suggestions, especially after recent events- which I figure regular readers might be able to figure out.

Anyway, this post isn't really about me. But it is about my "purpose" for this site. It's about Kelsey Briggs, Joan Green, Ashley Howley, a little girl in Vermont, and Katie, and countless others. You see, when I started this blog- my intent was not to write a crime blog. I had intended to just write about my everyday issues, which at the time were focused on some crazy people that lived next door. Somewhere, that changed. Because, I realised that there were people out there with bigger issues than what I had, and I felt that I could do something to share their stories. I wanted to help, partly because I had been in some of their shoes, partly well for more personal reasons.

Over the course of writing, I've been touched by more stories than you can imagine. And yet, I knew that I was really only hitting the tip of the iceberg... that hidden out there in the real world were other stories that never made it to the news, and therefore never made it to somewhere that I could find it. And even the ones that I did find, well they weren't really the entire story- just pieces printed in the main stream media.

Those are some of the stories I want to tell. The ones that you never hear about, or if you do- you only hear pieces of them.

I've started a Google Group, sort of in the hopes that it'll give me a chance to personally relate to some of you, sort of in the hopes that it will give me another avenue in which to learn your stories, and possible share them if you allow me too. More than anything else, it will give me a base on which I can work on some of the more pressing stories.

I know, you're wondering what "pressing stories" I'm talking about. Well, funny you should ask. You see, other than just writing here almost everyday, I also end up doing a lot of research on laws, on abuse, on all kinds of things. And, every now and then I get someone who needs some help. Whether they need laws, or they need someone to step in and give a voice to their story, or even if they just need someone to vent to. I'm here for all of that. The group I have started will evidently have links to commonly requested laws, a members board to share ideas and cases, and the ability for you all to vent, whether about personal cases, or something you've read somewhere.

I intend the group to be non public. Which will ensure privacy for those who wish to join, while still creating a atmosphere in which ideas and opinions can be shared. The group has the ability to upload files, comment, email members, create pages and just about anything else you could find useful. You will each have full control over what things of yours makes it from there to here.

I really don't know how much interest there will be in this, and it might not even work out, but my hope is that it does, because I believe that most of you come here for a purpose- and it has to be more than just to read my thoughts on things.

So, for those of you interested... you can request an invitation to join here. You'll need a Google Account, which I highly recommend. Because then you'll be able to experience the benefit of Google Chat, with me. Plus, it's an great email app.

Note to the Weather Man

Seriously, I don't do cold. I'll put up with it if there is actually snow on the ground because, well let's face it- the kids get a kick out of snowball fights. But, if you can't give me the snow- I'm going to have to demand that you keep it at least at 65 degrees outside.

Thank you,

I was over at Riehl World View, reading Dan's latest posts, when I stumbled upon a rather sad one. It seems that Bob at Confederate Yankee is having computer problems. Serious ones. I've been there. And I can tell you, it's not fun at all. Neither is having to find the funds to replace a computer.

Now, before you go telling me how this has nothing to do with you, let me explain why I think it does.

Blogging is mostly a labor of love. Those who have started their blogs, built up readership and stuck around for any real amount of time, can attest to the fact that it's not always easy to find the time, or the energy to continue. Blogging on a crappy old computer makes it even harder. But they do it, because they feel that they owe their faithful readers at least that much. And because they like to see their own words up in the Google searches.

Unlike newspapers that you pay to read, or magazines that you buy a yearly subscription for- reading a blog everyday for information, entertainment, or just to tell the blogger that they are wrong costs you nothing. 365 days a year, readers can enjoy their favorite blogs... for free. Sort of. Sometimes we ask for comments, or for tips on breaking news, or to click the ad links on our site and then sometimes... we put our heads between our legs and just have to ask you for a little cash assistance. Sometimes we just put up a "donate link via pay-pal" and hope that you'll click it when you feel moved to. When we ask you for something, it's "blegging". (According to Bob.)

Bob's blegging. He needs a new computer. And he'd like you to help him get that. I'm blegging, because I know where Bob is coming from as I had to buy one recently myself, and would like to help Bob achieve this goal.

If you are interested in helping Bob even if it's only a few pennies, please see his post. It's funny. And sad. All at once.

Do I hear insanity?

Maybe she just wanted to be able have a budding friendship with Yates and Schlosser, whose time together in the mental hospital has been able to produce a glorious friendship founded on the common thread that they both cruelly murdered their own children. After all, who wouldn't want to be able to join in those late night "I murdered my kids and convinced everyone I was too sick to go to real jail" conversations.
Seriously, I couldn't make this up:

Andrea Yates, who drowned her five children in the bathtub, and Dena Schlosser, whose baby died after she severed the girl's arms with a kitchen knife, became roommates after they were sent to the hospital following being found not guilty by reason of insanity.

"We talk about our past, we talk about our memories, our fun memories, the things that our kids did," Schlosser told The Dallas Morning News in her first public comments. With the support of her family, Schlosser agreed to be interviewed several times over the phone.

I'm guessing that Lakeia Nicole White was envious of that sweet murderous friendship and decided she wanted to be able to join in it too. Only, her kids were still alive, so she killed them.
A mother told police she smothered her twin 9-month-old boys because they were crying in her bed and then she went back to sleep, authorities said Wednesday.

Okay, so it's not likely that my take so far is anywhere near the truth, but something does tell me that someone will be hitting up on the insanity defense- IF South Carolina has it. I can't recall if they do or not.

So, the babies are crying, you'll run into that with babies sometimes. I'd imagine that it's hard enough to ignore one crying child, let alone two. And clearly, White really really wanted to go back to bed.

You know, I just don't get it. I look at my kids and I just can't imagine how someone could just kill their own kids. I just don't get it. Or shot them with BB guns. I don't get that either. But, yeah... I read about some deviant doing that too.

The Roots Of Ashford

Long time readers will most likely recall the name Lindsay Ashford. For those of you who don't know of about the infamous and self declared pedophile... I'll give you a little background.
*All blockquoted items come from straight from the sicko's mouth keyboard. Directly following blockquoted items, you'll find my "perv to nonperv" translation.

Ridiculous laws restricting the sexual freedom of young people need to be abolished so that they can pursue their sexuality without fear, even if it involves an adult.

Read that to say "laws should be thrown out if they prevent me from sexually abusing your children for my own sick pleasure".
Everything is turning black again. Once again, swallowed by the pool of tears. Is there a way out of this labyrinthe of sadness?

Read to say, "I'm depressed" this particular quote is a good one to keep in mind, for later in this post I'll be discussing it.
This quote comes from an article about a new law in the state of Ohio. In essence, the law allows judges to condemn people without the benefit of due process and to subject them to public humiliation and discrimination. Considering that people whose name is on a registry are now limited in where they can live by an increasing number of states and municipalities and that their information is now available freely on the Internet, this flies in the face of the Constitution. Not only does it suspend due process but it is cruel and unusual punishment.

He's talking about a new law in Ohio which is quite nice if you ask me. The translation should read "oh, shit... now victims have a voice despite our attempts to keep them silent past the statue of limitations. That's so not fair, as if sexually abusing a child should even be a crime to begin with"
I had a look at the petition and discovered that its creator is thirty-two year old Traeci Hogan, who describes herself as a “parent of a survivor, and a survivor myself”. She has found my site to be “absolutely appalling, and unfathomable”.

Speaking of a petition started with the intent to remove the pedophilia sites ran by Lindsay Ashford from the Internet. Translation "How dare someone try to point out that I not only support the pedophile lifestyle, but I want to legalize it."
I am not the enemy. The enemy is the one who wants to hurt your little girl. I am the one who would never do anything to cause harm to come to her.

Translate "I hope you are buying into this line of shit. Cause, I really want people to think that sex with little kids is okay. And that I'm not wrong for wanting to engage in this with their children. Damn, I just know they won't let me if the know the truth".
Ashford has long plead his case of being "misunderstood". He has went as far as to attempt to convince children that pedophilia is normal, and okay- by creating websites that reach out to young girls, filled with comments about how "special" an adult/child relationship can be.
I've been reading enough of his demented thoughts that he openly posts in hopes of persuading others that his heinous behavior is okay and acceptable- to say that there's more to Ashford than just the lonely sick pedophile he wants us to see.
So, I had to laugh a little when I read this the other night- The Roots of Pedophilia. There is was... staring me in the face, a perfect description of "the one" that so many online pervs turn to as if he is some sort of hero.
Pedophiles seem to have narcissistic and antisocial (psychopathic) traits. They lack empathy for their victims and express no remorse for their actions. They are in denial and, being pathological confabulators, they rationalize their transgressions, claiming that the children were merely being educated for their own good and, anyhow, derived great pleasure from it.

The pedophile's ego-syntony rests on his alloplastic defenses. He generally tends to blame others (or the world or the "system") for his misfortunes, failures, and deficiencies. Pedophiles frequently accuse their victims of acting promiscuously, of "coming on to them", of actively tempting, provoking, and luring (or even trapping) them.

The pedophile misinterprets the child's body language and inter-personal cues. His social communication skills are impaired and he fails to adjust information gained to the surrounding circumstances (for instance, to the kid's age and maturity).
It is likely - though hitherto unsubstantiated by research - that the typical pedophile is depressive and with a borderline personality (low organization and fuzzy personal boundaries). Pedophiles are reckless and emotionally labile. The pedophile's sense of self-worth is volatile and dysregulated. He is likely to suffer from abandonment anxiety and be a codependent or counterdependent.
Narcissistic pedophiles claim to be infallible, superior, talented, skillful, omnipotent, and omniscient. They often lie and confabulate to support these unfounded claims and to justify their actions. Most pedophiles suffer from cognitive deficits and reinterpret reality to fit their fantasies.

In extreme cases, the pedophile feels above the law – any kind of law. This grandiose and haughty conviction leads to criminal acts, incestuous or polygamous relationships, and recurrent friction with the authorities.

Okay, I know it's not nice to point fingers... but those of you who are widely aware of Ashfords behavior, his "they are out to get me" line of thinking, and of course the way that he so openly pouts when he fails to get his way, or is proven wrong... you know how I could just read this and sit back thinking that the author must know our deviant little pedophile rather well.

Truthfully, it's not just him. A day of reading through the chat logs over at the sickening Girl Chat forums, and you're likely to find a large group of people that seem to fit the description extremely well.

Anyway, the article is worth reading, although I must admit that I have personal discrepancies with just a few of the writers comments, such as the estimated ratio of pedophile to non sickos. But, I'm willing to overlook it- just to be able to read over and over again how someone seemed to so easily peg Ashford for the sad, depressing little rat he is.

Daniel Flores

Daniel Flores was more than likely going to have to find a new place to call home come January, as a new North Carolina law restricting how close a sexual offender can live to a school will be going into effect. Flores claims he was already in the process of looking for a new place to live, other than the home he shared with three other men... only now the move is likely to come even sooner than he expected.

The home of a registered sex offender was destroyed by fire just days after neighbors launched a campaign to force him out. It happened in the Misty Ridge subdivision in south Charlotte.

The man who was renting the home said he has received death threats and hate mail after his neighbors discovered a registered sex offender was also living there.

At this time, there is no evidence to connect the fire to the threats, in fact fire investigators have stated that they believe the fire started as an accident, rather than "they spitefully or vindictively tried to do something to" the sex offenders home as he stated.

Kelsey Briggs

Just barely under a year ago, I was asked about a story that I had shared with all of you. It was a simple enough question, with a simple enough answer. I never gave it much thought, the answering the question- not the story. The story, it haunted me. It was the first thing I searched for in the morning when I logged on, and the last thing I looked at before I logged off.

I hope that you will bare with me, while I share the story again. And I beg the Briggs can forgive me, for I'll never be able to do justice in describing the way Kelsey, and the way her family have effected the lives of so many people.

On December 28th, 2002 a beautiful bright eyed little girl was born. Her parents had had atroubled relationship, and had divorced before Kelsey was born.

In her short life, she would bring an incredible amount of joy to those who loved her, especially her father Lance. Her death would touch the lives of people all over the world- and start a chain of events that would include the creation of stronger laws to protect our children, and a fight for justice that reached beyond all borders.

Kelsey Briggs
This is the speech given by Kathie Briggs at the "Justice for Kelsey" rally at the state capital.

"After nine months of documented abuse we lost our precious Kelsey at the age of two years, nine months, and thirteen days. Her cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Her stepfather, Michael Porter, sits in the Lincoln County jail on the charge of first-degree murder. Kelsey' s death could have and should have been prevented. When my son was called to active duty, he left behind a happy, healthy little girl. She was living with her mother and while he was gone we had received his visitation.

The abuse began in January with a broken clavicle, twenty-nine bruises and multiple abrasions. The ER documented this as possible abuse and contacted our Meeker police department. After their investigation, they concluded it was a toddler accident and returned Kelsey to her mother. This was the beginning of many moments of outrage towards someone who could have and should have helped. We hired an attorney and received legal guardianship on January 24th.

It was never our intention to keep Kelsey from her mother indefinitely, but to take whatever steps necessary to keep her safe. We were told by the DHS caseworker that our job was to work with the mother and to work toward reunification. Kelsey's mother received weekend visits, supervised by her, mother for one month. After the next court hearing she received unsupervised visits each weekend and one day during the week. She was ordered to attend Parenting Classes, Anger Management, and Alcohol Assessment.

We were also concerned with the new boyfriend and asked that he not be present during these visits. Kelsey was returned to me several times with bruises. DHS was contacted and documentation was always kept. One worker felt supervised visits were still needed, but did not take steps towards making this happen. That same worker later told me to stop calling unless I knew for sure it was abuse. In March I took Kelsey to the ER after she was returned to me with a swollen and blue nose. The following morning when I called the same worker, once again I was scolded, for not calling the night before.

Raye Dawn PorterOn April 4th, my son returned home for his last visit before deploying over seas. He stayed until the morning of April 11th. This was the last time he saw Kelsey. He left behind a little girl who adored her father, who knew he was a soldier and that her Daddy was in the Army. Kelsey' s mother was upset that her visit was interrupted with Lance's leave and wanted the time made up. I contacted DHS for advice, but did not receive a definite answer. I had not received a copy of the court order and my attorney was out of the office, so trying to work with the mother I chose to let her make up her missed visit; a decision that later came back to haunt me.

On April 14th, Kelsey was returned with a sprained ankle. Her explanation once again was plausible and collaborated. However, given the history of our situation DHS was once again called and this time I was scolded for calling. On April 18th , the mother and boyfriend married. The mother and I decided together that going back and forth every two days was too much for Kelsey and we switched one day. That was the weekend when Kelsey's legs were broken. The mother took Kelsey to the DHS five days after receiving her from me to say I had hurt Kelsey. They instructed her to take Kelsey to the doctor. The doctor Kelsey had been seeing during this time was later discovered to be the sister of the attorney retained by Kelsey's mother. She and her colleague concluded the sprained ankle was misdiagnosed and was actually broken and the other leg was a stress fracture due to over compensation. No abuse was suspected and I did not think otherwise. Kelsey was put in full casts, which she referred to as her socks. It was pointed out to me that a second opinion should be sought to check for abnormal growth plates. An appointment was made at the OU Physicians Clinic for May 2th . I was shocked and horrified when the doctor diagnosed the broken legs as abuse. I called DHS with his report. Since the mother had pointed her finger to me, they had to investigate and put Kelsey into DHS custody. This is also the day my son landed in Kuwait to begin his service in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Kelsey was placed with the maternal grandmother. Calls were made on our behalf to many officials for help. BACA, (Bikers Against Child Abuse) was called. They stated DHS was correct in keeping her away from our home, all without talking to us. We thought this organization was there to help and they let us down and ultimately let Kelsey down. The Governor was also contacted. I knew he would help, after all he and Kelsey were members of the same family. We were referred to Howard Hendrick, the state director of DHS. He referred us to other workers. Our pleas were ignored and we became very untrusting of the people who should have and could have helped.

At the next court hearing the mother, my husband, and myself were given four hours supervised visitation each week at the Lincoln County Office. We left court that day for our first visit and immediately the stepfather was allowed in. We questioned this, but they allowed it anyway. These visits went on for one month until a court hearing on June 14th. At that time witnesses were called in one by one to testify. Asshole Judge KeyThe Court Appointed Special Advocate, known as CASA, testified as well. She stated she had interviewed her own sister who worked with this mother. When questioned as to whether or not she interviewed anyone from our family she stated she only dealt with parents and that Lance was allegedly in the Army and she could not locate him. She recommended Kelsey be returned to the mother and that we get one hour supervised visitation per month and that Lance should get the same when he returned. At the end of the hearings, Judge Craig Key ruled that he could not determine who hurt Kelsey and she should be returned to the mother with no visitation with our family. We could not believe his decision. As hard as it would have been we would rather have seen Kelsey go to foster care than to be returned to her mother's care. The day of court we received a copy of the DHS report and found our son listed as an alleged perpetrator. How could he be, he was not even in the state? I set out once again to contact any and everyone.

No one listened when I was only talking about abuse of a small child, but maybe if they know a soldier fighting for our country has been falsely accused they would help. So I sat at my computer night after night writing my story over and over again. I went to our Oklahoma State web site and wrote a letter to every State Representative, every Congressman, the Attorney General, the Lt. Governor, our Senators and many more. I received replies from Kris Steele and Gus Blackwell. Kris Steele, from Shawnee, gave us the number for OCCY. They contacted us on several occasions, but could not offer a different solution. I began writing the media and once again no one was interested in this story. Time went on without visits with Kelsey. Finally in August my daughter-in-law, Ashley, was contacted by DHS to tell her she could have a two hour supervised visit with Kelsey in their office. She was excited to finally have some contact with her. After two visits another court hearing was set. It was determined Ashley could receive a five hour unsupervised visit every other Saturday. They also requested she participate in a service plan. This was great news to our family. The morning of the visit Ashley was called by the DHS worker and informed that Kelsey had been in a car accident and the visit was cancelled. The accident was minor; Kelsey was taken to the ER at the request of the DHS worker for precautionary measures, but because the wait was too long, the mother left. We were told her stomach was sore due to the car seat, but Kelsey was otherwise fine. The visit was rescheduled for the following Saturday, August 27th . We were once again excited and anxious to see Miss Kelsey.

I planned on taking video to send to her Daddy and I wanted to take a picture of all seven of my grandchildren together. When we arrived, we could not believe what we saw. Kelsey had lost weight, there was bruising on the side of her face and down her left arm, she had retinal hemorrhaging, and appeared heavily medicated. I called my daughter and told her not to bring the other children, for fear it might be too much for her. I took video, but did not want my son to see how bad she looked while so far away. She remembered us, but she was not the Kelsey we had known. We watched her swing, something that had always made her happy. This time she had lost the spark that had once been there. We knew something wrong, but did not know what. When we left her that day we did not know it would be our last visit with this precious child.

We started making calls that night, looking for answers. I contacted the DHS county director on Monday asking what was wrong with Kelsey. I stated her condition was declining and if someone did not do something she may not be here when her father returned. I was told they noticed the changes. My Aunt went to the Pott. County office on August 29th and asked them to open a new investigation. They did not act on her concerns. It was determined the bruises and retinal hemorrhaging could have been caused by the accident eight days before. We were told she was having seizures and needed tests. After this visit, Dr. Koons, the pediatrician in Shawnee, wrote Judge Key and recommended that the visits be stopped. I remind you once again she is the sister of the attorney representing the mother. She felt only the mother, in case of a seizure, should monitor Kelsey. An emergency hearing was set. Before this hearing my daughter-in-law informed my son she wanted a divorce. From that day forward we lost any contact with Kelsey. As grandparents, we did not have rights.

My son had been injured in a truck accident in Iraq and with the news of his divorce, he was allowed to return home one month early. He was only able to keep his spirits up with the thought of seeing Kelsey. He contacted DHS to let them know he was returning. Arrangements had been made for Kelsey to be at the airport. This was to be a big moment for us. On October 11th, I received a call from a friend that Kelsey had been taken to the hospital. I contacted the CASA worker and asked her to check on the situation. I called her again and she told me Kelsey had a seizure and she would call me back. She never did.

We heard from a friend at the hospital that Kelsey had died. My son called thirty minutes later from Ft. Benning, Georgia, and I had to give him the news that would change his life forever. Our family was never contacted by DHS. They did not make any effort to call the Red Cross to notify my son that his only child was gone. We made the calls necessary and got Lance home that night. A few days later we got the news; Kelsey's death was listed as a homicide.

How could this have happened? So many people were allegedly watching over her. Not a week went by that our family was not contacting someone for help. Not a week went by that we were once again ignored. The day after Kelsey died everyone wanted to talk to us. Pott. County DHS called and wanted us to come in so they could open an investigation, but it was too little too late. So many people could have made a difference and they chose not to. People in the business of helping abused children ignored this child, but maybe because they let Kelsey down they will listen when the next child cries for help.

When Kelsey was born months after her parents were divorced I knew she must have a purpose and I wondered what it was. When my son was sent to war, I feared he was not coming home and her purpose was for him to live on through her. Lance came home and Kelsey was the one who did not make it. That is when I knew her purpose; it is to send a message for change in our state and to save other children. We need new laws; we need an agency with authority over DHS. Grandparents need rights to fight for these children when their parents are not capable of making good decisions.

Lance and KelseyWhile my son was at war trying to protect the rights of another country, his own rights and those of his child were violated. This tragedy that could have been prevented has forever devastated our family. We did everything we knew to do within the law. Many failed Kelsey. Our elected officials could have and should
have taken action when they heard our cries. If we do not have their attention now they should not be re-elected. I ask each of you to take the time to write or call your state officials and ask them what they intend to do to help the helpless in our state. It is too late to save Kelsey, but there are hundreds of children in homes today with broken bones and bruises that were not accidents. Not only should the perpetrator be held accountable, but everyone who had knowledge of the abuse and those who failed to help."

Kelsey died one year ago today, at the hands of people who should have been protecting her, loving her, and cherishing every moment that they had with her.

There is no excuse for what happened to Kelsey, no reason why DHS failed her, no explanation why a judge refused to rule in a manner than would have saved this little girls life.

The love that her father and family has for her even now is inspirational, and touching. The work that thye have done in hopes of protecting other children from saving the same fate as Kelsey is amazing to say the least.

If you haven't read the her story, or if you have but need a little reminding, please follow this link, which will take you to many posts and news stories documenting Kelsey's Purpose.
