Here's the timeline for convicted sex offender Joseph Edward Duncan III.
• January 1980: Duncan commits a burglary of a neighbor's home in Tacoma, Wash., stealing four handguns and ammunition. Later the same day, he abducts a 14-year-old boy and rapes him at gunpoint.
• Duncan later pleads guilty to first-degree rape and is sentenced to 20 years in prison.
• September 1994: Duncan paroled after serving 14 years in prison.
• April 1997: Duncan returned to prison for violating his parole.
• July 2000: Duncan released from prison, moves to Fargo and registers as a Level 3 sex offender.
July 3, 2004: A man approaches two boys, ages 6 and 8, at a Detroit Lakes (Minn.) playground and molests the younger boy. The man tries to molest the other boy but is unable. The boys provide police with a description of the man and his car.
• March 4, 2005: Duncan is charged in Becker County District Court with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct in connection with the July 3, 2004 incident.
• April 5: Duncan makes court appearance on the charges, is released after posting $15,000 cash bail and promising to stay in touch with a probation agent. A week later, Duncan makes contact with probation agent but authorities do not hear from him again.
• April 15: A red 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is rented from a St. Paul car rental agency in Duncan's name. The vehicle is not returned by its due date, April 20.
• May: Fargo police say park rangers in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation area in Wyoming found the key tag to the Jeep while cleaning up garbage that bears had pulled from a Dumpster.
• May 6: A warrant is issued in Fargo for Duncan.
• May 15: Three murder victims - Brenda Groene, 40, her son, Slade Groene, 13, and Mark McKenzie, 37, are last seen alive at a barbecue at their home outside of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It is also the last time Dylan Groene, 9, and Shasta Groene, 8, are seen before their disappearance.
• May 16: Authorities find the bodies of Brenda Groene, Slade Groene and McKenzie bound with plastic ties in the Groene home. Duncan fails to appear for a hearing in Becker County District Court on the child sexual assault charges and a bench warrant is issued for his arrest. Duncan's $15,000 bail is forfeited.
• May 17: Amber Alert issued. Authorities find nothing in search of area
• June 1: A federal arrest warrant is issued for Duncan in Minneapolis.
• Saturday: Shasta Groene is found at a Denny's restaurant in Coeur d'Alene with Duncan, who is driving the Jeep stolen May 4 in Minnesota, with stolen Missouri plates. Authorities say they will keep searching for Shasta's 9-year-old brother, Dylan, but fear he is dead.
•Monday:found human remains during their search for a missing 9-year-old boy whose sister was found days earlier at a Denny's restaurant with a registered sex offender.
•Tuesday:Duncan due in court, charges should be heard along with appointment of Legal counsel.
