Another Level Three Sex Offender- Another Death

I am ashamed. Ashamed of a legal system that defies the logic of protecting the innocent to preserve the rights of the criminal. Ashamed to say that even now there are those that will defend the rights of these monsters. Ashamed to bring yet another case of a sex offender, released to prey on those that should have been protected.

Although, from the killers side of this it is a white/black issue- it truely isn't. The issue is just one question. WHAT WAS THIS MAN DOING FREE?

Murder Suspect: White Woman Had to Die
Wednesday, July 06, 2005
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A homeless ex-convict accused of killing a 56-year-old woman in a parking garage near a suburban mall told police that he was fighting a race war and killed her because she was white.
The man, Phillip Grant, 43, appeared at a court hearing Tuesday in shackles and a bulletproof vest. In a 45-minute videotape played during the hearing, Grant told police, "All I knew was she had blond hair and blue eyes and she had to die."
Grant, who is black, claimed Connie Russo-Carriero (
search) "was not an innocent victim — because she was white."
Russo-Carriero, a legal secretary and mother of two grown children, was stabbed to death last Wednesday afternoon while walking to her car at a parking garage next to the Galleria Mall. She was buried Tuesday.
Grant was charged with second-degree murder and weapon possession. Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro said he could also be charged with a hate crime.
On the tape, Grant, a convicted rapist, said he was sick of being harassed on the street for being a registered sex offender. He also complained that Westchester County (
search) never helped him with his mental problems.
He also told police he was not remorseful for the killing and would hurt white people again if he could.
He told the judge in court Tuesday that he had wanted a journalist and his lawyer at the videotaping but they weren't there.
The judge ordered the case to go before a grand jury.
Grant served more than 20 years in prison and is labeled as a "level 3" sex offender, the most serious classification.

These are the stories that we will only hear in passing. And yet these are the very stories that need to be told over and over until the justice system begins to truely hand out justice. Not for the criminal- but for the victims. Past, present and would be future.

U.S. Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, is trying to push a bill through Congress that would help keep better track of convicted sex offenders. The Child Predator Act (search) of 2005 would, among other things, require states to specify that a convicted predator must report a change of address within 10 days after the change of address takes effect. The law would also require that offenders notify schools, public housing and at least two media outlets of their whereabouts. Penalties for not complying with the law could mean up to two years in prison or hefty fines, according to the legislation.
The bill also calls on the FBI to set up an Internet site that includes a recent photograph and address of child predators.

Written expression is a passion I have- however I am lacking the most important quality of actually being an Author... namely finding someone to pay me to ramble on and on. I even applied for a position with a paper- but they didn't go for it. SO until someone displays the willingness to cough up cash for my writings- you all are stuck with my thoughts on a blog. Honestly, even if someone was willing to support my habit- I'd still blog so you'd still be stuck with it. One day I would love to have myself published- but I don't see it happening other than when I click the "publish blog" button here on WWW.blogger.COM
